High Performance Karts

First off, GoPro Motorplex is the nicest, most well-maintained outdoor rental karting facility I have had the pleasure to frequent. A challenging, multi-faceted track with elevation and camber changes, built and run by racers with a business mentality and a long-term vision, they have worked hard to maintain its quality of experience from the opening day. All of the facilities are clean, modern and well looked-after from the Registration area to the rest rooms.

That mentality permeates the whole operation including replacing the rental kart fleet when they begin showing signs of a hard life. The recently new karts are hardy, but relatively fast allowing an exhilarating, more competitively equal experience for the beginner, or the occasional renter that wants a real, head-to-head racing experience.

For more experienced drivers they seem to be easier to over-drive if you are too aggressive so proper momentum management is a high priority. Which means don’t forget where the brake pedal is! They seem to be more forgiving of the alligator curbs but maybe less tolerant of the various transitions in the racing surface so kart placement can be pivotal in knocking a few hundredths off your lap time.

With organized rental races from ten minutes to 6 or more hours long, you can test yourself or a whole group of friends in a fun, but very competitive event.

Another cool thing is the location of the facility; ringed closely by most of the top professional stock car teams and several Indy car and professional sports car entrants means there are drivers and really good would-be drivers showing up at the track all the time. The appearance of numerous racing stars at various and sundry times running or competing at GoPro at their own expense is, I believe, great testament to the quality of the karts and the track’s driving challenge. Having spent a bunch of money trying to field my own teams and having worked in the industry for many years, I believe you can’t get a better racing experience for less money anywhere. It’s real (good)racing, real cheap.
